Herecast In Detail
September 15, 2004 (Filed under: Herecast, LBS, Publications)If you would like more information about the ideas behind Herecast, a 39-page report about the project is now available.
Location-aware computing promises to give rise to a new genre of applications--applications that are "smarter" and offer improved usability by customizing their output to the user's location. The full report can be downloaded for review here (PDF format, 39 pages.)
This paper will discuss the design of Herecast: an infrastructure to support location-based services using only an 802.11 network. Special emphasis is placed on issues of privacy and ease of deployment. With its community-built location database, Herecast can immediately be deployed anywhere a Wi-Fi network exists. Most importantly, we aim to make it easy for any developer to create their own location-based services, thus eliminating barriers to entry in the field.
