Finding Rogue Access Points
April 12, 2004 (Filed under: Herecast, WiFi, New Features, Network Administration)There is an interesting new feature in the database browser. Once you navigate to an area, you can browse the access point list in two ways: by building, or by network. For example, if you navigate to the UWO Campus in London, you'll see a list of buildings, and a list of networks that serve the campus. If you click on the "Unknown" network, you will see a mysterious access point has appeared in the UCC building -- possibly a cause for further investigation.
Soon, I'm going to take this one step further, and provide a way for administrators (and anyone else who is interested) to be notified immediately when new access points are found in a particular area.
This is just one of the ways this tool could be helpful for network administrators.
